Montclair Cosmetic Surgery | My Botox® Story

My Botox® Story
by Dr. Susan Palmer

••••I am a medical physician in my 40's, and I see the signs of aging no matter how well I take care of myself. I did not have an opinion about Botox® Cosmetic, until I noticed the appearance of frown lines that had not been there before.

••••One day I met a friend, a well-known actress, and noticed how amazing she looked. She told me that she just saw her plastic surgeon, and had a Botox® treatment between her brows for the first time. My already beautiful friend looked 10 years younger! She was radiant because she was so happy about her appearance.

••••At that point, my life and medical practice took a different direction. I researched Botox® and decided to go to Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, to be trained by the best practitioners. I studied with physicians who had been working with Botox® for years, and interviewed many patients. I am convinced of its safety - the proof is - I use it myself. Thanks to modern medicine, we are no longer at the mercy of the aging process!

What is Botox?

••••Botox® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people 18 to 65 years of age. It’s been in use for more than 20 years, and is FDA approved.

••••The natural purified protein relaxes the muscles that cause persistent frown lines that have developed over time. It smooths the lines between your brows, reduces or eliminates frown lines, and forehead creases that makes you look tired or upset. It also smooths lines around the eyes called “crow’s feet”.

••••The result is a refreshed, revitalized and younger looking you. Botox® Cosmetic patients will not look like they’ve had work done. It relaxes facial muscles that are in spasm, and restores them to their normal state. It's the muscle spasms that cause lines between the brows, forehead, and crows feet.

••••You can still move your eyebrows and all your muscles, but there are no wrinkles. You will not have the old fashioned "frozen face" look. Botox® can also be used to control excessive underarm perspiration.

How is this done and how long does this last?

••••The treatment involves the injection of very tiny amounts of Botox® into targeted areas. It is non-invasive, non-surgical, and takes about 10 minutes. There is no “down-time.” You may go right back to work after the treatment.

••••Results are best after two or three days, and treatments can last up to six months. When you have a second treatment, lesser amounts of Botox® are needed, because the muscle is more relaxed. I often get calls and text messages from patients 3 days after the procedure telling me how pleased they are.

Does it hurt and is it dangerous?

••••The procedure is not at all painful. Most patients compare the sensation to a slight sting. Botox® is very safe. It is a natural, purified protein that is administered at very low doses. The effects are usually confined to the injected region. It does not travel throughout the body, and, no anesthesia is necessary - only local numbing cream or ice.

••••Botox® Cosmetic is the most popular physician-administered aesthetic procedure for the 7th year in a row. Over 11 million procedures have been performed with a satisfaction rate of 97%! It is used in over 50 countries and has been in use for over 20 years. The majority of Botox® users are everyday people that want to look their best, not just models and movie stars.

••••The adverse side effects that have been reported by the media occurred only when using high doses for chronic back or neck pain, not for facial or underarm use, so it is not a concern.

Why should I consider Botox® treatments?

••••Botox® Cosmetic will remove the frown lines between your brows which make you look tired or upset. It also removes crow's feet. It will restore your youthful appearance. With today’s stresses and the added pressures of the economy, you can have the edge and confidence for a job interview, meeting, or a date.
